Is he dead? NO, thank goodness.

This is the last week that I will be posting to this blog. It does not seem as if I have done a whole quarter's worth of these blog posts. I am sad to say that I am a bit happy it is coming to an end. I like that I have been trying to make people aware of the sick and twisted people in the world that would harm an innocent animal. The cases that I have found have shaken me to the core and left me several times with a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach. I just hope that I have made even one person aware of the abuse that goes on everyday, in every neighborhood, in every city, and in every country. One person can make a big difference in an animal's life and well-being. Please do not hesitate to stand up for an animal that is being abused or neglected.

This week we go to Cleveland, Ohio where a man decided that because a dog alleged bit his dog and scared his family he was going to attach it by a leash to the back of his car and drag him down the street. I know that it is not right if this dog really did bite another dog and scare this man's family. However, there are better solutions than attaching the dog to the bumper of a car and dragging him down the road. I do not believe that any dog has the right to attack another dog or child, but there are resources out there to take care of these issues.

According to an eye witness that saw the dog being drug behind the car the dog was, "screaming and hollering, screaming and hollering." This is obvious cruelty to an animal. Somehow, the dog was released from the back of the car and some people went to help him. The man drove back through, stopped, showed no remorse, and said "Is he dead?" Then drove off.

The dog lived and is still currently looking for a new home. The people at the animal shelter said the dog has been very docile since he came in. They named him number 96. He loves to lick the vet technician's face. I liked that this one came with a happy ending. The dog seemed very docile and they are letting someone adopt him which is very good. I wonder if the man just claimed that he bit his dog to have an excuse to abuse the animal. If what he said is true, if he has his own animals they need to be investigated. One of the updates to the case stated that the man is not allowed to own any animals for five years. The man was convicted of animal cruelty.

Circus...fun for the entire family or cruel and unusual punishment???

Here we are this week at yet another sick and twisted case of animal abuse. The video is not necessarily all that graphic just more disturbing. After seeing this and reading more into the reported cases of animal abuse at the circus, I will never condone anyone taking their children to see the circus. I did not like it before, but I sure do not like it now. This video shows people talking about how they treat the elephants in training. One man stated, "I am not going to touch her in front of a thousand people." Hmmm...Is there something wrong with that statement? If you can not treat an animal like that in front of a bunch of people why do you do this during training? There is something wrong here.

 Honestly, I have seen many videos where elephants go out of control and could severely harm someone. I think someone abusing one of these very large animals has to have a death wish. All it would take is for the elephant to be pushed too far one time and it could kill in an instant.  In my opinion, a lot of times the elephant is scared of what is going to happen if it tries to fight back.

A lot of people believe that animals do not have different personalities like humans do. I beg to differ. I have seen different personalities in every different animal I have ever come across. I think some people say that so they can feel better about abusing an animal. Some people might think that if they are all lumped in a group where they all think and act the same it is OK to abuse them.

There are a lot of sick people that profit from the mistreatment of animals and this is just not right! I will not now or in the future ever go to a circus. I do not care what kind of deal I can get. I will not be found supporting such barbaric acts.

I would like that dog not neglected please...

This week we travel to Iowa, where there was a pet store charged by the USDA for numerous violations of the Animal Welfare Act. July of 1999, Mary and Rick Broderson were doing business as Fifth Avenue Pets in Kiron, Iowa when the USDA stepped in and charged them with several offenses under the AWA including but not limited to: failure to remove excrement (urine and poop) from the enclosures, failure to provide adequate lighting for routine inspection, and the long list of others found here. 

I have to wonder if the people charged in this case really thought they were running an efficient and profitable business entity. If their main income had to do with these animals then shouldn't they have taken better care of them? I think for them to be profitable they should have taken better care of their animals. This is just a bad decision on their part. The animals do not deserve to live in horrid conditions. 

I must admit this week I decided to go more on the tamer side of abuse and neglect (if there even is such a thing). The blog last week was really hard for me to deal with. It left me with an ill feeling all week. I do not have a very weak stomach. I have two nieces and I have seen a lot of really nasty things. This Blog has really opened my eyes to the business end of animal abuse, neglect, hoarding, etc. There are a lot of corrupt people in the world that really should not be doing business with animals as their number one source of income. There is no reason that they could not have cleaned up after these animals, besides pure laziness. I do not think there was a lot of abuse in the terms of beatings, shootings, or other violent abuse. This was mostly neglect, still abuse just not as violent.

I think that if people really wanted to do anything business related and receive profits for it they need to understand that they need to care for their "product." I do not like referring to them as that, but that is basically what they are for people in this business. The animals become like a bag of dog food to some people. The animals are treated like something that can be shoved onto a shelf and just expected to sell. I think that the people responsible for this should be treated the same way the animals were. Call me old fashioned, but that is the way I think it should be. I can guarantee they will not like it.

Would you wear it if it still had blood on it?

This week the story gets way more extreme and graphic. I must warn the site that is on here is not in itself graphic. What is graphic is the video attached to it. I was only a mere five seconds into it and I almost lost my dinner. I was thinking about leaving the link off of here because in a way I feel like I am glorifying what they do to these poor, defenseless animals. Then, I thought about it and decided that this is not glorifying to anyone. This behavior is disgusting and horrid treatment of these animals and does not in anyway make the people doing these things look good. If someone reading this should choose to watch the video, please make sure that you have not just eaten anything.

The animals raised on fur farms are held in cramped, disgusting in cages. When they are locked in cages, it is most of the time without food. If they are in the cage with another animal they often resort to cannibalism. If an animal is trapped in the wild, they may be left for many days suffering from "...blood loss, shock, dehydration, frostbite, gangrene, and attacks by predators." 


So, my question is this: Would you wear it if it still had blood on it? I know that I would never wear clothing that has come from an animal. I do not need to be "in style" that badly. Just the thought of having an animals skin on me gives me chills. (Not the good kind either). Can this fur trade be a legitimate business? I do not believe it can. There are so many laws in all countries speaking against animal cruelty. This is animal cruelty at it's worst.


I really hope that this hits home to people and maybe my little blog can make a difference in this big world. Even if it changes the thoughts of one person, that could be one more animal saved from this inhumane treatment. We, as humans, may sometimes forget that animals can feel pain just like us. (Or maybe some do not care). If someone were treating us this way the offender would surely get the death penalty. However, these animals are treated as if they are not appreciated. I do have to say that writing this blog has made me tear up some. I keep thinking about if I was being treated this way. This story makes me angry and sad.  I can not even discuss this video without falling into tears for the poor defenseless animals.

Dog fighting business in Moraine, Ohio

An investigation lasting a year, came to a head when there were simultaneous raids on seven kennels and a warehouse where alleged dogfighting had been going on.On March 24, 2007, law enforcement agencies came onto the properties to find sixty-four dogs that were thought to have been bred to fight. John Goodwin, the deputy manager of animal fighting issues for the humane society said, "The dogs will be euthanized because they were bred to fight, even if they appear friendly."

There were two dozen suspects arrested. There were also drugs, guns, and money present and were seized in the raids. The dogs were moved to temporary housing by Humane Society officials.

One of the suspects arrested, Terry Kendrick, was said to have ties to dog fighting rings in Florida, Texas, and New York. When the agents first saw the suspect's College Hill home they counted 16 pit bulls in the basement. When they returned there during the raid they found only 13. The agents have said the dogs fates were surely death. It is said that this suspect also had ties to former NFL star Michael Vick, the quarter back whose career was cut short when he went to prison on dog fighting charges.

I could keep going and going about this case. However, the simple truth is that this was not a legitimate business venture. The U.S. is known for being the land of opportunity, not this kind though. The law states that anyone can open any kind of business as long as it is lawful. This was not a lawful business. Look at how many of these poor animals suffered because of some low life wanting to make and easy buck. There are going to be arguments that Pit Bulls are bad dogs...they have a chemical imbalance because of their breeding...my biggest thing is, this is still a living breathing feeling animal. They may have a bad rap, but I think it is people that do this kind of stuff that causes them to have that. I believe that there are absolutely wonderful Pit Bulls out there. They could be terrific pets! I think the ones that have given the breed a bad reputation are the ones that have been taught and bred to fight.

I worked with a guy one time at a pet store that told me he fed his Pits gun powder and cow's blood to make them mean. When I asked him why he would do that he said...They need to be able to protect my home! I immediately left this man alone and tried to never speak to him unless it was necessary. I did do more than just that, but that is off the subject. How could anyone do that to an animal? There is nothing that can change that either once it is done. The damage has been done there is no taking it back.

From one abusive situation to another???

     On a property north of Pittsburg, Pennsylvania, on March 13, 2008, the Pennsylvania SPCA found over 1,000 cats that were being neglected. There were cats everywhere housed in trailers and outbuildings across a 30-acre farm. The defendant, Linda Bruno, was running a rescue called Tiger Ranch. She has taken in cats from nine different states. When the SPCA raided the property they found cats lying dead in litter boxes, near food bowls, and skeletons of cats outside the property. The CEO of the SPCA, Howard Nelson said, "It's a death camp." There were cats diseased and emaciated all over the property. The vast number of cats found shocked even veteran humane agents. There were more than 100 people that came out to help get all of these cats off the property.

     I have to wonder if she still thought she was doing a good thing. She may have started out  this rescue with the greatest of intentions. However, I would have to say that the end result was absolutely appalling. I think that if she had realized it was getting out of control she could have prevented the senseless deaths and suffering of so many innocent animals. There are countless options out there to keep this from happening. The article does not state whether she had set up an adoption program. I think that there should have been one. If she really cared about the well-being of these animals, she would not have let it get this out of control. There had to be some point when she started to feel like she was overwhelmed. At that point, she should have stopped taking in anymore cats and began trying harder to find good homes for the cats she currently had. This is just not good business, even if it is not for profit. 

     I have thought to myself I wish I could help out more animals. I would absolutely love to be able to. However, I know what I can handle. I have one dog and he is small. I would love to find him a buddy more than anything, but I know I can not handle anymore animals at this point. Maybe at some point down the road. 

     I just can not see how she did not notice this was so out of control. The humane agents stated the smell on the property was awful. How could anyone honestly feel that this was helping the animals. These animals went from one possible harmful situation to another. If anyone ever sees anything to this extent, please do not hesitate to get these poor animals help from the professionals! 

     

Indiana Amish Puppy Mill

This video may be disturbing to some people. Although, this is not nearly as graphic as the others I have posted it is still disturbing because of the apparent neglect and abuse going on.

     This puppy mill in Indiana is run by an Amish man. He says he has right about 70 dogs in his kennel. He talks as if the woman is interested in buying him out. The video was done undercover. The woman filming asked him several question including: Do you take them to a vet? His reply: I don't use a vet., What happens if one gets really sick? His reply: I put them down., and How do you put them down? I get my gun and the dog and take care of it. He also goes on to say that his dogs are really good to him. It does not look as if he is good to his dogs. There was one dog that had its leg chewed up by another dog in a different cell. The dog was rescued about an hour after the filming. Unfortunately, the dog died twenty minutes after it got medical attention.

     I have to wonder to myself if this is worth the money he made doing it? He says he brought in $100,000 in the last year and did not claim any of it on taxes. He says it is all unaccounted for because it was cash. He said there were a few sales of puppies that were paid in check and he had to report those. Is this really worth the animals well being to be pushed to have babies in this way? He would be using his stock over and over and that would be hard on the female dogs. If he continued this way, wouldn't all of his dogs end up all being related? Then, would he continue breeding them?  I think the business end of this would be bad for him. If he keeps going he will get a bad reputation and no one will want to buy a puppy from him. His dogs taking care of him won't matter anymore. Then what is he going to do if his company crumbles because of his bad reputation. Will he take all the dogs out with his gun and take care of them?

     The video talks about him not going to trial over this because the state attorneys didn't think a jury would convict him of animal cruelty. Well, let's see if I were sitting on that jury my answer would be guilty without question and I would not sway from my position. I think if they had followed through with this trial he would have been convicted of animal cruelty. No animals should ever be treated in this way for profit or not!

Drug testing and cruelty to Primates...

The Video that I have a link for on here is to an undercover investigation done by PETA. This video is not as graphic as the one from the Conklin Dairy Farm. However, I must still warn that this video is still very disturbing. These monkeys are tied up on tables and put in restraint tubes to have blood drawn from them. The technicians shoved tubes in their nose all the way down to their stomachs to force experimental drugs into them. The corruption of this company is disgusting. There is testing done on animals all over the place. This video is just disgusting. Some of the captions through the video are of conversations between the technicians saying they will kill the animal or "beat it's ass". This is blatant disrespect for another living being.

The animals are being stuffed in cages with no socialization. This leads to psychosis for these monkeys. They can be seen in the video running in continuous circles or jumping the bars in the cage in a circle. They are going insane being put in these cages all the time. There was a caption with a conversation with a vet from the lab stating that they were not allowed to examine the animals. For some it was nothing or death. No animal deserves to be treated in this fashion.

There should be laws against people using animals for drug testing. I do not think that we need to use animals to test new drugs or food. There are other ways to find out if something is good enough for us to use. Even if they had the animals socialized on a regular basis, there was no abuse, and they were kept in a great environment resembling their natural habitat, to put them through drug testing even on a weekly or monthly basis is cruel. I know that I am going be more careful what products I buy and use. If there is even a chance that an animal could have been used to test it. I know that I can not keep from it completely. If I can be more careful maybe one innocent animal can be saved from this horrid abuse and cruelty. I would feel that I have done some to help.

These labs may think that it is profitable for them to use these animals to test on. I think that they need to take a deeper look into what they are doing. I do not think they would find it that wonderful if this stuff was happening to them. They would not like being treated the way these monkeys are. I think this should be everyone's thoughts when it comes to doing any of these things to someone or something. Would you like that to be done to you?

Dairy Farm Brutality

This is a dairy farm in Plain City, Ohio not too far from Columbus. The pictures and video were taken by hidden camera. I must warn ahead of time any video related to this story is extremely graphic! The people involved have been charged with animal cruelty. The really sad thing about it is the owner was doing the abusing as well. There were employees that were punching cows, bulls, and calves in their heads. One of the employees dropped a calf from about five or six feet overhead and then kicked the calf in the head several times. There was an employee that tied a bull by the nose to a metal bar and proceeded to hit the bull in the head with a crow bar. There was another incident where an employee poked a cow with a pitchfork very hard in the side. There was one man in the video saying that it felt so good once he got started that he just had to keep going.

This entire story is just completely disgusting. I started watching the video and I almost got sick to my stomach. I could not finish watching it. The people I think need to have some more charges pressed on them. The owner should be charged with animal cruelty and should not be allowed to ever run a business related to animals. If he does decide to run a business related to animals, he should be fined and sent back to jail. I think this should be in effect even if it is found that he is not proven to be abusing the animals again. These animals do not deserve to be treated this way.

There needs to be stricter penalties for crimes of this nature. The one employee that was charged with animal cruelty received eight months in jail. I know for the courts to find that they have done to them what they did to these animals would be cruel and unusual punishment. I still think that there needs to be stiffer penalties for animal abuse. There should be mandatory psychiatric help for anyone that abuses animals as well. I think that if anyone is abusing animals like this, this person is not mentally healthy. Most of us know what pain feels like. Why would anyone want to inflict pain on other people or animals? I think that animals need to have a lot more protection from people like these. There is no excuse for what these people did.
